A Storied Material
The FUTO Cut and Sew Short Sleeve PCO Knit Top begins with 100% cotton, known for its long fibers, strength, and durability. It’s then woven into a breathable fabric that’s both light and moisture-wicking.
Through an unconventional process called Pigment Dyeing, a distinctive character begins to slowly take shape. Pigment settles into the fabric’s seams and creases, rather than penetrating into the threads, adding a charming unevenness and contoured texture that’s different for each T-shirt.
Although subtle variations are encouraged, Pigment Dyeing still demands careful control, and the time-consuming process has mostly been abandoned in Japan for more efficient methods. At one dyeing factory in Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture, artisans remain dedicated to exploring colour expression and experimentation through this craft.
